SENIOR DAIRY FARM CONSULTANT

Our client specialises in providing independent and practical support to dairy farmers throughout the UK. This is an exciting role in a growing business for an experienced consultant who is now seeking to move to a senior role and possibly play a leadership role in aspects of the business.

The range of services provided to clients includes:

Farming reports help clients to keep up to date technically and are based on practical farm-based research, field scale evaluations, surveys, product comparisons and tests

Dairy Consultancy advisers provide bespoke advice to individual farmer clients

Training Workshops on a wide range of topics are held at farm venues across the country

Dairy costings are supplied both direct to farmers and via many of the leading feed suppliers. They provide analysis of herd performance and financial margins for herds throughout the UK, including reports benchmarking herds against each other

Telephone support from the team of dairy specialists

The successful candidate will take a leading role within a small, enthusiastic team, working closely with the Directors. There is ample opportunity for a self-motivated individual to develop existing and new skills in all aspects of the job but a team player is essential.

The specific role will be adapted to suit the skills of the successful individual but the likely key duties are detailed below.

Outline of Main Responsibilities:

1. Consultancy

Consultancy is delivered direct to farmers by in-house consultants and by a network of regionally based self-employed Associates. Your role will include servicing some clients yourself, supervising the in-house consultancy operation and maintaining good relations with the Associates.

2. Promotion of the Business Proposition

The offer has its foundations in the provision of well researched information and advice to dairy farmers. The successful candidate will be expected to develop new and innovative ways to grow the value of the service and widen its uptake by individual farmers, groups and corporate interests.

3. Technical Team Training

The Technical Team carries out trials and writes the majority of the Farming Notes. You will have a key responsibility in providing innovation to the team and technical training to individuals, applicable to their skills requirements.

4. Contract Projects.

The business is involved in contract projects to deliver training on behalf of organisations such as DEFRA. You will have a key role in the organising the delivery of these contracts and liaising with project partners.

5. Training Workshops

A range of farmer workshops is run at venues throughout the UK, many on farm, on topics ranging from cow nutrition and herd health, to business management and staff motivation. You could have a key role in contributing to the workshops.

6. Administration and General Duties.

With a small team all members are expected to share in administration, telephone answering, computer support and assist on various tasks.

REMUNERATION:

Salary Individual salaries will reflect experience

LOCATION:

At Kingshays offices - ideally - and certainly for the first 6 months. Thereafter a home based role may be possible elswhere in the country.
